The Professional Staff Congress union at the City University of New York proclaims, “Our CUNY workplaces must also be shifted so that . . . colleagues who are the targets of bullying feel empowered and supported, not alone or ashamed.” But there is one exception: The union’s June resolution condemning “the massacre of Palestinians by the Israeli state.” The charge is demonstrably false. Israel attacked Gaza only after hundreds of rockets were fired and it made efforts to reduce civilian casualties, while Hamas’s proclaimed aim is to massacre Jews. By buying into centuries-old religious, racist and ideological myths, the union has created a hostile workplace environment and has made Jewish and pro-Israel students fearful of expressing themselves openly on campus. The union need only look into the mirror to discover the campus bully.
